I think social media hasn't ruined travel, it has encouraged it. When I see a post I like I make sure to put it on my list of places to go when I'm in the area. I think maybe the art world might have a harder time because collections and paintings are easily accessible online. Perhaps the real paintings or statues aren't worth seeing in person unless you're particularly interested. The digital humanities field has also allowed more access to these documents and paintings, which is why museums are looking for more interactive things to do while physically in the museum - which social media turns into a 'must see' place.
