Airport Etiquette is a combination of the spoken and unspoken rules of air travel. It gives people like you and me an idea of what is expected when we enter the airport and make our way to our intended destinations.
These are a few tips on how to act in an airport to make check-ins easier, your journey safer and your travels carefree.
The first thing to consider when discussing airport etiquette is your luggage. You must know the rules in terms of weight, hand-luggage, liquids and food items. The average weight limits for luggage is between 40-50 pounds or 18-22 kilograms. Most airplanes allow specific foods and liquids to be carried, so be sure to read the rules on them before packing your bags.
The next thing to consider is electronics. Devices have to be scanned separately from the other luggage so make sure to pack all your devices together in a place that is easily accessible. This will make the walk through security much faster.
Also try to be reasonable with the amount of jewellery. Certain jewellery might need to be taken off in order to get through the security checks. Make sure you are able to take off the items of jewellery with as little struggle as possible. This is for your convenience and also in consideration of others who might have to wait for you.
Once on the plane, make sure you have everything you will need during your flight at hand. Try not to forget anything so the flight goes smoothly without too many runs to the overhead compartment. This can inconvenience you and others, it can also put someone’s safety at risk, if your luggage drops on someone.
Finally, try to use the space you have rather than “borrowing” space from the passengers around you. This means, try not to take up too much space; this can mean reclining your seat or using up the whole armrest. Put your belongings in the space provided and make sure you are spatially aware.
Until next time 🤗
